Seigan is the tenth of the 12 traditional Seitei Jodo forms. It is learned and demonstrated as part of Staff II – Intermediate Staff. It must be demonstrated with eight snaps:
- Tsune-no-kamae
- On the second step, with both hands on the jo, extending toward the swordsman’s face
- On the third step, blocking the swordsman’s draw
- As the swordsman withdraws and unsheathes the sword, preparing for gyakute-tsuki
- Finishing poke down to the solar plexus
- As the swordsman cuts, vertical jo on the right side
- Finishing a strike to the swordsman’s solar plexus
- As the swordsman withdraws, covering his eyes
