Taihazushi-Uchi

Taihazushi-Uchi translates as ‘evading then striking.’ This is the last of the twelve basic Seitei Jodo skills that are learned and practiced. It is the first of the specialty skills… responding to a surprise attack.

  • What is being demonstrated? Evading a strike when doing a put-away
  • What is the intended target? The sword.
  • What is the starting stance? The middle of osame-kata.
  • What is the very first move? Quick withdraw.
  • What is the required footwork? Step back to withdraw, step back to strike.
  • What is the required handwork? Bringing jo vertically along the side of the body.
