SUMMARY:Weekly Zen\, Sword and Staff Class
DESCRIPTION:We’ve been led on for too long. \nWe don’t need a gym\, a guru\, or gear that costs more than our rent to feel alive\, strong\, and free. What if the answer was already in our hands—or at least in a park nearby? \nLet’s paint the scene: sun-dappled grass\, fresh air\, and the rhythmic hum of kettlebells swinging\, wooden swords slicing through invisible foes\, and short staffs spinning with effortless grace. This is not your average fitness class. It’s your weekly retreat for seeing clearly\, moving freely\, and—yes—living joyfully. \nFirst\, the body… kettlebells. These aren’t just weights; they’re your ticket to fluid\, powerful movement. Think of them as your compact companions in mastering strength without stiffness. Plus\, they’re oddly fun to swing around. \nAnd onto the heart of the matter: training with the bokken and jo. Ever wanted to channel your inner samurai or martial artist without the drama? The Japanese wooden sword (bokken) and short staff (jo) are all about precision\, balance\, and flow. No previous training is required—just a willingness to play and explore. Because isn’t that really the true source of true joy? \nFinally\, the mind. Finish with meditation. Not the “sit there and think about your grocery list” kind. We’re talking about grounding\, clarity\, and the kind of stillness that makes the chaos of your inbox seem like a distant memory. You don’t need to be a Zen master; just show up. \nAnd here’s the twist: all of this happens outside. Trees for walls\, clouds for a ceiling\, and plenty of room to move. Forget the treadmills and fluorescent lights. Nature doesn’t charge a membership fee. \nThis class isn’t about being perfect; it’s about being present. Whether you’re here to de-stress\, get stronger\, or just try something that doesn’t involve sitting at a desk\, you’ll leave feeling lighter—physically\, mentally\, and maybe even spiritually. \nSo\, are you ready to trade “same-old” for “something extraordinary”? Bring yourself. Bring a blanket and cushion for meditation. We’ll bring the rest. \nThese classes are ideal for men and women of all ages – including mature teens and retirees. Classes are held weekly\, but all are encouraged to drop in as their schedule permits. \nObservers are welcome. Please RSVP. The class fee is $10\, which is used to replace the training gear\, but it is free if you supply your own (bokken\, jo\, kettlebell). \nBe sure to visit our website.

SUMMARY:Full Moon Sit
DESCRIPTION:Sit zazen under the full moon from 8 – 10 PM. Full Moon Sits are informal affairs. While you can sit in the zendo\, you will probably want to sit out under the stars. Importantly\, there are no fixed start or stop times and no set durations. It’s all up to you. \nAnd finally\, when you hear clappers around 9:40\, you will reconvene in the zendo for sarei (informal tea and a quick snack) and a short finishing chant. Expand your practice. Even if you are brand new to sitting\, you can do this. There is no need to register in advance\, and donations are always appreciated.
